Our first attempt at leaving for Utah for Christmas was a FAIL. Saturday, we spent most of the day doing laundry and put the girls to bed a little bit early in preparation for leaving on our trip around 2 a.m. Everything was going according to plan as Jake went to bed early so that he could be awake enough to drive, while I stayed up until almost midnight packing the car. After somehow failing to wake up after my alarm went off no less than ten times (I set it to start at 1:30 a.m. and continue coming on in five minute increments), Jake woke me up at 2:30 when his alarm went off. Despite the car being packed, in our incoherent, drowsy state, we both reasoned that sleep sounded a lot better than driving.
Next thing I knew, it was 7:45 a.m. and the girls were babbling, ready to get up…a Christmas miracle, owing to the fact that the last time they slept in that long was…ummmm….NEVER. It was kind of annoying living out of suitcases all day, but the extra sleep was worth it!
We will commence Round 2 of Operation Leave for Utah tonight (technically Monday morning). This time, I plan on staying up so that I don’t fall asleep and then refuse to get out of bed when my alarm goes off, and will then sleep in the car. Thank goodness for left-over fudge, cookies from neighbors, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the one with Jim Carrey) recorded on TV!
Speaking of schedules, here’s what Samantha had to say today when I talked to the girls about how important it was to retain a regular sleep/nap schedule while on vacation:
I have a feeling this “vacation” will not be featuring a ton of sleep.
My thoughts exactly!
Lots of love,
