Flower Girl Time/Sarah’s Wedding Part One

Sarah’s (and let’s be honest– the girls’) big day was finally here!

While everyone was setting up at Silver Fork Lodge where the wedding and reception would be, I headed to the cabin in the afternoon to get ready with Sarah and her bridesmaids. I expected things to be hectic and stressful at the cabin, but when I walked in, it was dead silent– just Sarah and the ladies she hired to do our hair and makeup. Compared to what Jake was dealing with back at the condo with the girls, this was a total vacation! Sarah, Amanda, Katie and I hung out and chillaxed while getting treated to hair and makeup. Heaven!

We don’t have all the wedding photos back yet, but Sarah’s photographers sent her a few sneak peeks.

Meanwhile, back at the condo…

Total destruction! They actually did end up breaking a lamp that I had to pay the owners to replace.

IMG_8570

Today of all days was THE day I needed the girls to nap. They go down for naps 99.9% of the time without much of a fuss and sleep from 2-3 hours each afternoon. At home, it’s like clockwork. The girls could obviously sense something was up and refused to sleep while in Jake’s custody.

At 3, Jake gave up on naps and headed over to the cabin with Samantha and Amelia to get them dressed. He informed me we were at Situation Critical. Red alert! We put our No Nap Protocol into place (basically a prayer and buckling up for a wild ride) and hoped for the best!

When everyone was ready, the photographers took some pictures of the bridal party in the woods by the cabin. The wedding ceremony was pushed back an hour due to some jerk construction workers who wouldn’t stop jackhammering across the road, despite the pleas of the wedding coordinator and our family who were holding down the fort at Silver Fork.

A few sneak peeks from the photographers…

Sarah looked amazing in her wedding dress, which was handmade by Aunt Annie. The lace and beading she hand-sewed on were so beautiful. It looks great in the pictures, but was absolutely stunning in person.

Two_Paper_Horses-5

We were going for the Twilight look!

Two_Paper_Horses-7

Once we were done with bridal party photos (during which I was desperately trying to pull my heels out of the dirt and keep the twins from getting mud on their dresses), Jake picked us up and we lined up for our walk down the aisle.

Then, we waited…and waited…and waited. Apparently, the bridal party had been locked out of the cabin and someone ended up having to climb through a window to unlock the door and get everyone their keys so they could get to the ceremony. I think Sarah may have been left behind at some point as well, but I’m fuzzy on the details!

Meanwhile, we hung out on the deck and prepped the girls for their grand entrance. Once again, a huge thank you to Aunt Annie for making the girls’ adorable satin dresses and finding the fur boleros for me! They worked out perfectly! I bought the sashes off Etsy and had the girls’ Cinderella shoes custom hand- made by Bitsy Blossom.

I recall Mommy saying something about throwing flowers?

IMG_8571

And don’t touch the fire. And don’t trip. And don’t get our dresses dirty. OR ELSE.

IMG_8573

The guests waiting below asked for a sneak peek of the girls, so Jake obliged.

IMG_0504

After obsessively refreshing the weather app on my phone for the past week, we were all so relieved it didn’t end up raining, although it certainly looked like it would, up until the very last second. Even the wedding coordinator had a doppler weather map pulled up on her phone in case we needed to move the ceremony inside imminently.

Finally, the rest of the bridal party arrived in one piece and it was go time! A huge thank you to Allison for taking pictures on her phone. I’ll post more once we get the photos back from the photographer.

Poor Dustin (Mike’s brother)– I told hold him he was responsible for making sure the pregnant lady didn’t fall. As a Marine, he was up to the task and performed admirably!

IMG_9706

The girls were acting silly while waiting for their big moment, but once it got there, they acted really shy! Jake had to prod them along and then basically pushed them down the aisle.

IMG_9709

IMG_9710

Seeing the girls walk down the aisle with their twin cousins, Eleri and Rhys, right behind them was too much!

IMG_9711

The girls refused to look at anyone!

IMG_9713

Despite all of our practice sessions, no flowers were actually thrown out of the basket.

IMG_9714

They made it without screaming and running away! Success! Once the girls got to the end, they didn’t know quite what to do next, so they started running around in circles right in the front, laughing and chasing each other. I hope someone caught that on video/camera!

IMG_9716

Cousin Jack looked so handsome as ring bearer.

IMG_9708

Here comes the bride!

IMG_9720

Toby, the officiant, gave a very heartfelt sermon about remembering our wedding vows beyond the wedding day and into day to day life, most of which I couldn’t concentrate on due to the girls wriggling in their seats and chattering loudly.

Two_Paper_Horses-8

Eventually, Jake had to escort haul the girls away. IMG_9741

IMG_9742

Nooooooo! I want so stay!!!!

IMG_9743

IMG_9744

With the girls out of the picture, the rest of the ceremony was lovely!

In lieu of writing their own vows, Sarah and Mike had put together a remembrance time capsule in which they had written each other letters, and will then open at their five year anniversary. Precious! The officiant explained all that, and then it was I Do time.

Thankfully, both said the magic words!

IMG_9737

Mazel Tov!

IMG_9758

Right after the ceremony, we attempted to take family photos, during which S and A were extremely uncooperative. I will be shocked if a single one comes back in which they are looking at the camera and/or not looking like this whole ordeal was pure torture.

Let the party begin! To be continued.

Wedding Weekend adventures

The day before Sarah’s wedding, we headed up Big Cottonwood canyon to stay in our rented condo at Solitude Resort for a few days. It was nearby Sarah’s wedding location and the lodge was absolutely deserted since it wasn’t ski season yet. We all loved taking in the fresh mountain air for a few days!

IMG_2672

IMG_0367

The best part… bunk beds!

IMG_2680

We only had one incident of Samantha falling down off the bunk bed when she was climbing down the ladder for the first time. Apparently, she wasn’t too traumatized, because she wanted to spend all her time in her new “nest.” Their friend, Parker, recently got a bunk bed in his room, so when the girls saw this bed, they immediately exclaimed, “It’s just like Parker’s!”

IMG_8548

We gave the girls the option, but they opted to sleep snuggled up together in the top bunk. They were precious!

IMG_2682

Having flashbacks!

IMG_2241c

Grammy and Grandpa rented a big cabin down the road for themselves and some of the out of town wedding guests, so the evening before the wedding, we all hung out and roasted s’mores. The girls were obsessed with hunting for all the animal sculptures around the cabin.

Noah’s definitely not afraid of these two!

Hanging out with Great Grandpa. In the meantime, I was steam pressing the flower girls’ dresses to get them ready for the big day while Aunt Annie made some last minute alterations to my dress.

Best. Day. Ever.

IMG_9597

You can’t see them in this video, but we’re not used to seeing so many stars where we live. So pretty.

Snuggling with Noah!

IMG_9619

October 5– Sarah’s Wedding Day was finally here! We ate breakfast at Grammy’s cabin and then went back to our condo to try out the pool and water slide before getting ready for the wedding.

IMG_2536

There’s nothing like the hot tub when it’s 50 degrees outside!

IMG_2529

Cousins Noah, Eleri and Rhys joined us for some pre-wedding swimming.

IMG_2531

We had to drag the girls away from the water slide eventually so that we could get them ready for the wedding!

Wedding Day to be continued…

Cousin fun at Bridal Veil Falls

We all jumped for joy the day Daddy flew back to Utah just in time for Aunt Sarah’s wedding weekend. After a week of me telling the girls that Daddy was STILL at work, they seemed dubious.

When Daddy walked in the door with Grandma Celeste, who had picked him up from the airport, the girls were in total shock and wouldn’t leave his lap the rest of our lunch with Grandma. Making the five minute drive to Kneader’s with Jake driving with his mom and the girls in my car was like the apocalypse as far as they were concerned. I WANT DADDYYYYYYYYY!!!! Traumatized much?

Everyone enjoyed lunch, except for perhaps Jake, who couldn’t eat due to two toddlers glued to his side, chatting away about all the fun things he missed that week. They listened with sympathy when Jake told them all about his fun plane ride wherein he got peed on by the toddler in the seat in front of him. Only on a Jet Blue flight to SLC does that happen!

It was a no-nap day, thanks to all the excitement of having Daddy back.

That weekend, Uncle Mike and Allie drove down and the bridal party/family converged on Grammy’s house for a pre-wedding bbq and short rehearsal.

Samantha and Amelia entertained everyone with their play doh skills.

Baby Noah loves corn as much as the girls.

IMG_2493

The girls loved their hike to the waterfall with Grammy so much that they decided to go again, this time to show cousins Allison, Zack and Baby Noah. He’s not so much of a baby anymore, but the girls still call him that!

IMG_2495

Throwing sticks and rocks into the river. Classic entertainment.

Noah was more interested in Bandit.

IMG_0325

We were successful on one of those counts. Kidding! Not fish food.

Guess who was “feeling silly”? Samantha’s words, not mine.

Utah Week Two

While Jake was back working in California, the girls and I enjoyed hanging out at Grammy’s and finding things to do around Utah County. And by “enjoyed,” I mean had fun most of the day until bedtime, at which point not having Jake there to take over after a full day of feeding, dressing, bathing, brushing, wrangling, entertaining, refereeing, disciplining, and surviving really started to take a toll.

It was definitely nice not having to cook and clean on top of the girls, but even with all the perks of being on vacation at Grammy and Grandpa’s, I was tired and not in the best of moods by the end of the day.

Just for fun, a flashback to our Utah trip last summer:

IMG_7035-682x1024

By day three of no daddy, we were pretty much done. The girls loved being at Grammy’s house, but there’s just no place like home! Amelia was especially homesick/daddy-sick and didn’t quite know how to deal with everything. She would be playing, perfectly happy one moment, and then bursting into tears screaming “HOME!!!!! I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!” the next. Times that by seven times a day, seven days a week, and that’s pretty much how things went down.

Still, with Grammy there to help out, we survived our Jake-less week and lived to tell about it.

2015:

IMG_2441

For some reason, they didn’t have straps to tie around the kids (uhhhhh, liability?) and Amelia’s horse was a little bit fidgety. Scared me half to death, but she held on admirably.

IMG_2442

Amelia 2014:

Of all the many parks we visited, the wooden Discovery Park was their favorite.

IMG_2467

Cute little beehives!

IMG_2463

IMG_2460

Sister hug!

IMG_2465

Poor Amelia is constantly wanting to hug Samantha and hold her hand– usually to her sister’s vehement protests. She’s so sweet!

IMG_2466

One morning, Grammy went with us to the BYU dinosaur museum, where we spent most of the time keeping the girls from treating priceless artifacts as a jungle gym.

IMG_2450

We loved all the free things there were to do around Provo.

IMG_2454

Amelia is still talking about going to the dino museum as if it were yesterday. Apparently, she grew quite attached!

IMG_2452

IMG_2456

Grammy also went with us to the BYU Bean Museum of Natural History. Hooray for another free museum, although, we definitely paid our “admission fee” by letting the girls pick something out at the gift shop. Surprise of the century– they each picked out yet another stuffed animal.

Contemplating the circle of life at the Bean Museum.

IMG_2458

On one of the hotter mornings, the girls bounced around Kangaroo Zoo.

IMG_8531

And on one of the colder days, we visited Thanksgiving Point’s Museum of Curiosity.

Samantha is our little builder. She found these blocks which were supposed to be in one of the exhibits to demonstrate what happens to structures in an earthquake. She informed us that she was repurposing them into some train tracks.

IMG_8537

Don’t mess up my train, sister!

IMG_8536

We sure kept busy, but we were missing Daddy every second!
