S and A take on Legoland

This past week, we took a few days off to take Jake the girls to Legoland. Even though she had never been, Samantha kept reminding me throughout the day that we were going to “Legowan!” and both girls couldn’t wait to hop in the car for our adventure. The only person who was more excited than the girls was Jake!
Notify the authorities. S and A have arrived.
I carry my own suitcase. I’m low key like that.
Amelia insisted on wearing her sunglasses while checking in so that the paparazzi wouldn’t recognize her.
We got to “Legowan” late in the afternoon, but even though we only had time for a few rides, the girls fell in love with all the colorful Lego creatures.
Amelia loves crossing her legs– she even does it in her carseat.
Overlooking Lake Lego.
Most of the rides had a 36″ height requirement; fortunately, the girls passed with flying colors!
Since it was the middle of the week, the place was totally empty, which was great considering I there’s no way we would have lasted very long waiting in lines with two toddlers.

The girls went on the fairy tale boat ride twice– the three little pigs were their faves.
We also checked out the Legoland Aquarium, which was just the girls’ size.
Way too excited…

Amelia was exemplary during dinner…wish I could say the same for Samantha. Jake and I took turns sitting outside the restaurant with her because she was being so fussy. It turned out she just had to go to the bathroom really badly, but didn’t tell us. She felt a lot better once she finally went! That girl is so stubborn sometimes!
S and A were excited to check out every phone/pen/coffee mug/soap in the hotel room and were pretty much bouncing off the walls way past their normal bedtime.

We shut the patio door and let the girls wreak havoc inside.
Meanwhile, from the comfort of the noise-proof glass, Jake and I were outside enjoying this.

Except for moments like these, we’ve come to realize that with the twins in tow, “vacations” are not really vacations anymore!

Sister clique

Just a few tidbits from regular life so far this month:
Amelia is a great helper when Samantha is on the potty– she loves reading to her! Wish I could say the same for Samantha…

It’s fun to see the girls start recognizing and interacting with their friends more. This week, we had a scheduled playdate with our friend, Grace, saw her at our regular gym class and ran into her randomly at another park. Lots of quality time! Grace is a sweetheart and runs up to the girls, shouting their names (correctly, most of the time) and gives them huge hugs every time she sees them.

While the girls will say “Hi, Grace!” that’s about it. They are not big on hugging unless it’s each other or us. I feel bad because the girls have their own little sister clique– they generally like to stick around each other and don’t show much interest in tagging along with their other friends. I’m thinking as a little experiment, Jake and I should take them on separate playdates with their friends to see how they interact differently.

Table for two.

The three amigas.

We haven’t practiced much scootering lately because it usually entails me pushing the girls along while they stand there. Lately, they’ve been willing to scooter on their own–hooray!

Amelia loves pretending she’s a little bee and yells, “Buzzzzzzzzz!” while flying down the street. They also love to hide behind bushes, jump out and “sting” me while I pretend to be terrified.

Scooter gang!

And finally: we’re not sure why the girls are in love with this fire hydrant but they’ve seriously given it one hug a day since they were about 18 months. I try not to think about all the dogs that have likely done their business around it.

Worst Bedtime Ever Timelapse

As a follow up to the crazy late night shenanigans last weekend, here’s a glimpse of the longest bedtime ever– in timelapse form!

P.S.– It wasn’t light outside when we put them to bed– in fact, it was pretty dark and cloudy. For some reason, the night vision on the camera does weird things if it catches any light from a lamp or other light source.

One hour later…they finally conked out. On the bright side, it’s really entertaining watching these!

Allie’s 1st Birthday

This cute little girl turned the big one over the weekend– of course S and A were down for some celebration. On the way over to her party, Samantha insisted on bringing her Melissa and Doug play birthday cake and candles, presumably as a trade-in for real cake. The girls were definitely eyeing with envy that adorable mini cake and Allie’s rainbow skirt.
It was a rainbow themed party and the girls loved unskewering their cute rainbow fruit skewers.

In part because we’ve had a lot of birthday celebrations recently, S and A are obsessed with singing “Happy Birthday” –in the middle of the day, before bed, at the grocery store– you know, whenever the fancy strikes them.

Samantha usually tacks on a “Happy Birthday Sammy!” but this time, she gave all the recognition to the actual birthday girl, Allie.

Suddenly at full attention for cupcake time.

So glad we’re friends, Allie. And that has nothing to do with your yummy cupcakes.

Can’t believe you are already one, Allie! Looking forward to many more adventures this year now that you are walking running everywhere!

It’s going to be interesting running after these four this summer. I’m already stocking up on the energy bars.

Lots of love,
