Lots of love,
During Meredith’s 2nd month, she had a few days of some pretty gnarly diaper rash. I switched to Water Wipes and that did the trick! Meredith’s bum says thank you!
Meredith was much more awake, alert and BUSY this month. The twins have been eyeing her baby toys with lots of interest and were excited to finally be able to “play” with her.
She loves her wooden Haba activity gym and I love it because it’s simple and clean, unlike the over-stimulating, electronic baby jungle gym the twins used. We still have the old monstrosity we used with the twins, but Meredith understandably prefers the simple one. The height is adjustable too, which makes it easy to change things up for her when she’s on the Boppy.
Her favorite danglers are the cute wooden Haba ones and her high contrast Manhattan Toy mobile. Her arms and legs still make jerky movements, but this month, she started intentionally swatting her dangly toys.
Clothes-wise, Meredith has been sporting the twins’ old clothes (double of everything is nice when she spits up on something!) and she’s lucky that she’s been getting so many cute hand-me-downs from her baby friend, Maple. Her favorite new items are the super soft Aden + Anais onesies and her cozy Baby Gap footed sleepers.
The last item is more for me, but now that we’ve been getting out and about to the park more, we’ve fallen in love with our Jujube diaper backpack. Why I ever had an over-the-shoulder diaper bag with the twins, I will never know. Backpacks are so much easier!
It’s clear from revisiting the twins’ favorite things that Meredith has her own unique baby style. How times have changed!
Lots of love,
From a surprise early entrance into the world to moving out of the house temporarily while our downstairs was being repaired from a leak, Meredith’s first month of life was never dull!
But first, a comparison:
Amelia, Samantha and Meredith at one month old. I’d say the three look pretty similar– all down to that cute little rounded bump on their chins! It’s hard to tell from these pictures, but Meredith has a lot more hair than the twins ever did at this age. The twins are so blonde now that I’d almost forgotten that they had dark hair that went strawberry blonde later in their first year. Meredith seems like she’s on the same trajectory.
A recap of Meredith’s first month:
January 26, 2016 at 9:40 p.m.: Too excited to wait a few weeks, Meredith made her surprise debut via a long and crazy, albeit successful VBAC. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19 inches long.
Meredith finally got to meet the faces behind all those raucous noises she heard from the womb.
At home, there were lots of snuggles.
To their dismay, the twins realized babies don’t do much but eat, sleep, poop and cry. They were hoping for a playmate.
Meredith had so many members of her fan club come to hold her.
Meredith celebrated Valentine’s Day with lots of sleep and sister cuddles.
Meredith participated in her first of many photo shoots with Aunt Sarah.
She went on her first stroller ride.
She especially loved being carried around in her Solly Wrap and walking out on the trail with her sisters.
Other firsts included her first car ride, doctor’s visit and bath.
Meredith’s first vacation, thanks to a slab leak in our house.
First restaurant outing while we were kitchen-less.
First time at the beach.
At one month old, Meredith weighed in at 9 pounds, 13 ounces and 22 inches long. This girl loved to eat; hence, the steady weight gain. She was definitely a snacker and during the first few weeks, I felt like a cow! Good thing she’s cute or I would have gone crazy.
Toward the end of the first month, her schedule was a little more predictable as she fed every 2-3 hours, but it still felt like most of our day was taken up by eating. Since the twins were born prematurely and needed to gain weight quickly, they were on a strict feeding schedule and I pretty much always knew what to expect, so this time around with Meredith was much different for me.
Another welcome surprise was that she adjusted much better than the twins to nighttime sleep, sleeping for a 4-5 hour stretch at night by her one month birthday. Like the twins, she became gassy and fussy with certain foods, including dairy, which I quickly cut out, to better results.
Personality wise, Meredith couldn’t have been more different than the girls were as newborns. Compared to the twins, she was way more mellow in general and seemed to go with the flow, despite the chaos around her. We called her our dream baby!
The twins at one month:
I love these cute milestone blocks that my friend, Phi, gave me. Bandit, unfortunately, got a hold of one of them and when I contacted the guy on Etsy who makes them for a replacement, he said I wouldn’t believe how many people contact him about their dogs doing the exact same thing. Not a toy, Bandit!
Happy one month, Meredith! You are loved!
Lots of love,
The newborn photos Aunt Sarah took of Meredith were recently featured on Basic Invite. Way to go, Sarah!
